For a PV system with a hybrid inverter the grant is 65% of eligible cost, capped at 3,000 euro per system and 645 euro per kWp. The lowest of those three figures is what you receive.

Why do other sites say 75% up to 9,000 euro?

That figure combines PV and battery. PV alone is 65% capped at 3,000 euro. The 9,000 euro total only appears if you install a battery at the same time, and REWS does not publish that combined figure itself.

Does a bigger system get a bigger grant?

Only up to about 4.65 kWp. Below that the 645 euro per kWp cap decides your grant, so size matters. Above it the 3,000 euro per system cap binds and the grant stops growing.

Can a landlord claim the grant?

No. The scheme excludes property used principally for business purposes, and that expressly includes letting on a commercial basis even where the tenant uses it as a home.

What the grant actually pays

Three caps apply and the lowest one wins. Most pages in Malta quote a single percentage, which is why so many people are surprised by the final invoice.

Where the binding cap changes

Below 4.65 kWp the per-kWp cap decides your grant. Above it, the €3,000 per-system cap does, so a larger system does not bring a larger grant. Nobody else in Malta publishes this crossover.

Eligible cost is VAT inclusive. Malta charges 18% on residential solar and there is no reduced rate.
Discounts, offers in kind and extended warranty beyond the standard ten years are deducted from eligible cost.
This does not tell you the payback period. Payback depends on the feed-in tariff rates, which we have not yet verified against the statutory instrument. We will publish them when we have.
Part A must be submitted before you buy or pay any deposit. The grant offer letter starts an eight month clock.
